Few things in the Pontiac run deeper than the roots of the Shawville Fair. First born in 1856 on a rough clearing donated by James Shaw, these fairgrounds have served as the heartbeat of our community for generations.
The Shawville Fair: Photos from The Equity (1977–2005) compiles nearly three decades of beautifully captured moments. Taken by the dedicated journalists and photographers of The Equity, these 340+ black-and-white photographs have been pulled directly from the newspaper’s negative archives to celebrate the grit, joy, and volunteer spirit of the Pontiac.
What’s Inside:
-
The Fairgrounds & Midway: Take a walk down memory lane with bird’s-eye views from 1982, vintage food trucks, and the neon-soaked hum of the evening rides.
-
The Pageantry: Trace the transition of the “Pontiac Dairy Queen” competition into the beloved Shawville Fair Ambassador Pageant, complete with generations of proud local leaders.
-
The Heart of Agriculture: Multi-generational livestock memories, including intense 4-H calf fitting, heavyweight horse pulls, and the raw mechanical strain of the truck and tractor pulls.
-
Main Stage Entertainment: Relive legendary late-summer nights featuring everything from local stepdancers to Canadian country superstars like Stompin’ Tom.
-
The Demolition Derby: Capture the flying mud, crumpled hoods, and crunching metal of the ultimate fairground finale.
